Syria's Assad Faces Rising International Pressure (ContributorNetwork)

ContributorNetwork - The United Nations Security Council issued a presidential statement that condemned Syrian authorities for "widespread violations of human rights, use of force against civilians" on Aug. 3. The statement, which is considered weaker than a resolution but had the support of potential veto-holder Russia, is considered an important first step towards ending the violence that's rocked the eastern Mediterranean nation since spring.
