Germany, Italy at UN court over WWII compensation (AP)

A general view of The Great Hall of Justice at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands, Monday Sept. 12, 2011. Germany has argued to the United Nations' highest court that Italian courts have no jurisdiction to order it to pay reparations to victims of Nazi war crimes. Germany said that in 2008 the Italian courts violated international law and its sovereignty in ruling that Berlin must compensate an Italian civilian who was sent to a German labor camp in 1944. Germany has paid tens of millions of dollars in war reparations under various agreements since 1953. Italy says violations of humanitarian law override other laws and international accords.
